“Suicide Kings” (2006)
This short story is set in ancient Norse mythology. It tells the tale of three brothers who are sentenced to death for their crimes…
The Hangman pulled the lever. The three brothers fell, and the sound of their deaths was lost under the cheering of the crowd and the bellowing laugh of King Ivar.
The cheers of the crowd faded away until only the wind and a few crows could be heard. The somber deed was done.
..and their story begins.
Suicide Kings is not published nor necessarily seeking publication. The advice for authors to take their first story and hide and/or burn it seems prudent. Perhaps someday when the stars are right.
“Pinky, The Invisible Flying Pony Who Saves The World” (2009)
A discussion on the MNSpec message board posed the question, “What is the best story premise ever?”. The idea of a story about an Invisible Flying Pony Who Saves The World had been rolling around in my head for some time, and I just knew that as far as premises go, this story would sell itself based on the title alone.
I wasn’t able to decide whether to write it as a children’s story or a horror story so I chose both. File this short story under “Dick and Jane meets Lovecraft”.
Pinky will be released in electronic version via several different methods. An e-book version of the story will be available through various e-book retailers, including Amazon. The story will also be released in small pieces via Twitter (using the hashtag #pinky). Finally, those who join the Cult of Zero will receive a Free Copy of the full e-book.
“Big Game” (2010)
Blake Richardson gets more than he bargained for when he interviews for a job at the worlds largest robotics company.
“Ever shot a fifty-caliber rifle before?”
“Well, no…”
“It’ll change your life Blake. That much power in your hands? The very existence of whatever you point it at decided on by the slightest twitch of your finger? You get to be a god for a tenth of a second. I want to be there, to see what kind of god you are.”
Big Game is a modern horror short story combining corporate espionage, an eerie secluded cabin in the Canada wilderness, the hunting trip of a lifetime and the Biggest Game of all.
Big Game was written specifically for the Apex Book Company anthology titled “The Blackness Within”. You can read about my discovery of the anthology here, and the acceptance of my story here.
The Blackness Within anthology should be released in Spring 2010. To be notified of the release, simply sign up on my mailing list.
Novels
“The Demonslayer’s Handbook” (In Progress)
When Demons hiding among humanity uncover a series of occult rituals taking place in modern-day Minneapolis, they seek help from the last people on Earth you would expect: Demonslayers.
What could frighten Demons enough to seek help from their sworn enemies? Is the enemy of your enemy your friend? Can Demons and Demonslayers work together to fight against a force greater than Good and Evil?
The answers involve super powers, fist fights, black leather and black magic culminating in a showdown at the heart of the city… and the small time metal band that gets caught at the middle of it all.
The Demonslayers Handbook is a thriller / dark-fiction series I started writing in 2004. The first book of the series will be ready for publication in early 2010. If you’re interested, sign up on the mailing list to receive updates.
