Music
Life without music is like a movie without a score. I love pretty much any music except Gangsta Rap, Country and Emo. Oh, and Bruce Springsteen. I don't know why I don't like Bruce Springsteen's music; I don't like the taste of vinegar either, and there's no need to explain why, I just don't like it.
I've always been a fan of progressive rock bands like Rush, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits and Marillion. For harder stuff I turn to Motorhead and Metallica, (but I really can't stomach Metallica beyond the Black Album). I'm also a sucker for industrial: Marilyn Manson, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails... and grunge: Days of the New, Alice In Chains, Nirvana, et al, but I never understood the appeal of Soundgarden. I could fill this page with bands I can't hear enough of: Tom Waits, Garbage, Crystal Method, Machines of Loving Grace, Suzanne Vega, The Dream Academy, The Pursuit of Happiness, Delirium...
Jagged Spiral
In case you haven't heard, Jagged Spiral is a three-piece 'Northern Rock' band from Minneapolis. I really love this band, which is a good thing, because as it turns out, I'm in it. I provide bass and vocals, Josh handles percussion, and Colin takes care of anything with more than 5 strings. We write, record, arrange, edit and produce our own original music. The genre is an evil combination of sharp and slick, piercing and polished, jaggedy and spirally (hence the name). There's an entire history of the band at this link.
If you want to hear some of our music, you can download the entire album of Days From Evil at this link, or you can visit the Jagged Spiral myspace page.
We play infrequently in the Minneapolis area, so sign up for announcements on the band website. If you want to book us to play at weddings, funerals or assassination attempts, shoot me an e-mail: zero@conradzero.com
Pray For Daylight
In Fall 2005, Colin and I were approached by Stone Soup Films to provide the movie score for their independent vampire movie project called "Pray For Daylight".
In March 2006, Jagged Spiral (now with a Real drummer named Josh, and working under the temporary band name 'Jagged Halo') had finished scoring the movie with both live material, and clips from early Days From Evil recording sessions. I did some blog posts about the whole experience; just follow this link.
In 2007, Pray For Daylight premiered at the Riverview Theatre in Minneapolis, and Jagged Spiral got rave reviews for the score. If you listen to the album "Days From Evil", you can hear the parts of songs (and full songs) that were used in the score. Anyway, if you have an hour-and-a-quarter to spare, you can probably find a copy of Pray For Daylight somewhere on the interwebs...
In the meantime, if you are looking for musicians to score your independent film, e-mail me: zero@conradzero.com.
