Happy Zombie-Jesus Day!

While I don't consider myself terribly religious, I can respect celebrating the anniversary of anyone who can come back from the dead after three days. That is quite a feat.

Of course, you do realize that if anyone came back from the dead nowadays, someone would beat their head in with a baseball bat, and there would be very little chance that the whole event might spout a worldwide religion.

So today we did the multi-family hop and managed to squeeze in some time between rounds of ham-and-potatoes to watch War Of The Worlds (the one with Tom Cruise) Not (I repeat: NOT) a very Springtime-Eastery-Happy-Kid-Friendly-Movie. The only yellow in the movie was in the human-disintegrating-space-alien-beams, and the only pink in the movie was the gross sphincter that sucked people up into it like an inverted anus. Like I said, not very Eastery, but I really enjoyed it. I actually think Tom Cruise is a good actor, but I also like Kevin Costner, and despise Adam Sandler, so WTF do *I* know...

Oh My Flying Spaghetti Monster

OK, I knew there was something wrong with the prevailing theories, and now the truth is revealed. The world was, in fact, created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. Further Useful Info from the website:

You may be interested to know that global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters are a direct effect of the shrinking numbers of Pirates since the 1800s.

The author requests, nay Demands that the FSM theory be taught in schools alongside the the other popular creation theories.

[UPDATE]
You know when Wikipedia lists it, it's gospel.

And, here is a link to the game (Warning: Popups)

Godchecker

Whilst doing research for The Demonslayer's Handbook (DSH) I came across this site, which really does a fantastic job of addressing the deities of many areas (Honestly, when have you ever seen a listing of Austrailian Deities?) I spent way too much time here, looking for names of Elemental Deities, which will appear as characters in DSH.

Egypt was right out, because it is so overused. I was initially attracted by the Sumerian pantheon. It is the oldest documented religion known to man, and it has some of the coolest names. Lovecraft really made use of Sumerian deities throughout his writings.

I finally decided on the Aztec lineage, mostly based on the fact that they were well-versed in human sacrifice, and not quite as popular as the others. (When was the last time QUETZALCOATL made the news?)

MSNBC - Vatican university debuts classes on Satanism

Don't worry, I signed up (call it research). But to get in, I had to lie on the application and say I was a nine-year old boy. I hope they don't remember my excommunication....

Merry December-Winter-Season-Time

Here in the U.S. of A., there are three 'Hot Buttons' you should be aware of:
Religion, Politics (AKA: The New Religion) and Open Source Software. And really, the latter two are safe to talk about as long as neither person truly understands the subject. But Religion, (Organized religion that is, not the personal relationship between someone and their own existence that I would call Spirituality.) is something you generally avoid bringing up unless you really want to get into a fist-fight.

Especially during 'The Holiday Season'.

Unless, of course, you post it to a blog.

Check out the link above to see how some people are handling the diverse religious cultural 'melting pot' that is America. Realize this is probably a few idiots giving Christanity a bad name, but if you actually meet one and get forced into a corner by some malcontent who demands you write Merry Christmas instead of Seasons Greetings, and a fist-fight seems inevitable (or attractive,) then simply ask them of the following:

1- When was Jesus born? (Answer: Not December - If the shepherds were out tending their sheep in the fields as reported in Luke 2:7-15, then it would not be anywhere near the end of December.)

2- Where is the celebration of Jesus Birthday mentioned in the Bible? (Answer: Its NOT, and if you REALLY want to piss them off, throw in Deuteronomy 4:2, 12:32 and Proverbs 30:6 about 'not adding to what is written'.)

3- Have you heard of any Wiccans getting upset because we refuse to say, "Merry Yule!" ? (Answer: No, because the Christians burned them all at the stake.)

[E-mail to Z4 at www.whypaganssuck.com]

Z4,

I was just doing research on a book I'm writing (a fictional work on Demonology) and I hit on your website, and had to tell you I really enjoyed it! Plenty of reference links, and you clearly know your subject, and aren't just flaming to be heard. Your layout is well structured, and I really enjoyed your sense of humor.(fluffbunnies?)

Furthermore, I agreed with every word. (Well, as much as I read of it anyways, which was quite a lot...)

My belief (of course, each e-mail you get has to include at least a hint at the sender's belief system, right?) as far as religion is concerned is that we have two choices:

1 - We can choose to fit ourselves into an existing religion. This requires changing any of your beliefs that don't agree with that religion, unless it happens to exactly match your beliefs. I would say that those are some LONG odds that you find a religion that matches what you believe. (if this did in fact happen for many
people, it might hint at a higher truth OR religious belief built into our genetic code OR alien conspiracy theory...)

I don't like this option, as it seems like being untrue to yourself, but the nice thing about it is you have people to eat pancakes with on Sunday.

2 - We can incorporate the parts that 'agree' with our belief systems, and 'roll our own'. So if people want to incorporate Faerie Worship and Aromatherapy into their personal religion, that's fine. (Mostly) I would point out that there is a danger of ending up with what I would call an 'imbalanced' or 'incomplete' religion. By this, I mean deciding to worship the God and ignore the Goddess (or vice-versa) and let's not dwell on what kind of problems might manifest from this belief system, but hopefully people will see/know the parts lacking, and seek to fill in the empty spaces. Consider this to be a neverending process, resulting in a personal religion that grows with the person, and NEVER considers itself to be 'finished' or 'complete'. (Is this a bad thing?)

I prefer this option, although it probably easier to follow the Option 1, and pick your belief system off the shelf, than it is to soul-search and ask yourself questions like, "How do I Really feel about Abortion/Faeries/5-Fold Kisses/Pancakes/Etc...?"

It is unfortunate that many people who want to rebel against the religion forced upon them at birth turn to Pagan/Wiccan beliefs half-heartedly, or with just enough knowledge about the subject to make them annoying. Hopefully your website helps the world in that regard.

For what it's worth,
